Pies, breakfast and more from the City Pork crew

City Pork Kitchen and Pie, the third of the City Pork restaurant concepts, is tentatively set to open Dec. 1, according to owners.

The new restaurant will only serve breakfast and lunch, but it will offer a wide selection of homemade sweet and savory pies. Co-owner Stephen Hightower says the goal is for the new location to become a “destination pie shop.”

City Pork Kitchen and Pie will be at 6721 Exchequer Drive. Read the full Daily Report story here.

Our Cousin Vinny’s Pasta Sauce expands distribution

When Vincent “Cuz” Sotile died in early October, it didn’t mark the end of the fledgling pasta sauce company that had been the dream of the 84-year-old son of Sicilian immigrants for the past 50 years.

Sotile died the same week Associated Grocers picked up his Our Cousin Vinny’s Pasta Sauce for distribution at all of it Baton Rouge stores. At the time, about 40 stores had Sotile’s sauce on their shelves, including Soprano’s Supermarket in Livonia, the first store to sell the sauce. Now that number has reached 70, says Sotile’s friend and business mentor, Jack Warner.

Besides local staples like LeBlanc’s, Calandro’s Supermarket and Alexander’s Highland Market, Sotile’s sauce is now on shelves in New Orleans at Breaux Mart supermarkets and in Youngsville, right outside of Lafayette, at Nunu’s Fresh Market. Read the full Daily Report story here.
