Start the Valentine’s Day season early with drinks and painting at Ruffins’ Downtown Thursday

Do you paint to R&B music? If not, host Creative Canvas LLC is ready to help you try something new. This Slow Jams & Paint Pre-Valentine’s Edition includes a night of R&B music, drinks and painting for you and your boo at Ruffins’ Downtown Daiquiri Lounge.

Ticket sales for this event ends Thursday, Jan. 30, at 3 p.m., and can be purchased here. The event is 8-11 p.m., and ticket packages include all art supplies, photo booths and snacks.

Weigh in on the gumbo competition at the Roux Rally this Saturday

Red Stick Roux Rally is commencing its annual gumbo competition Saturday, Feb. 1, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Upon entering the event, you get a ticket to vote for your favorite gumbo of the day, whether it’s in the chicken and sausage, seafood or Cajun combo divisions. This tasty event will feature live music with Chris Leblanc, Burnhouse and the Jam Cracker Band.

Celebrate retired LSU basketball coach Dale Brown Saturday at BRCC

Ahead of the Baton Rouge Community College vs. LSU Eunice game this Saturday, Feb. 1, BRCC is honoring a Louisiana basketball legend. Dale Brown, retired LSU men’s basketball coach, will be recognized in a Dale Brown Day ceremony before the start of the game. BRCC’s men’s basketball coach Donald R. Green once played at LSU under Brown and says in a release that he “created the most successful basketball model in the state of Louisiana. … My coaching and my life has benefited from his wisdom, his concern for his players and his love for humanity.”

The ceremony begins at 4 p.m. During halftime, there will be a hospitality area for refreshments and pictures and autographs with Brown.

Relax with some yoga and puppies at Perkins Rowe Saturday

One of the best ways to relax is with yoga, and what better way to do that than with puppies! On Saturday, Feb. 1, 9:30-11 a.m., host All Pups Welcome and Perkins Rowe will have breakfast and puppies, as well as yoga with Yogalates instructor Katie Fox. Some of the proceeds will go toward the Friends of the Animals Baton Rouge, and you can look forward to adoption opportunities, too.

Indulge in a movie and beer at Tin Roof on Saturday

Tin Roof Brewing Company is hosting its Movies on Tap event with a viewing of the critically-acclaimed The Princess Bride. Tails and Tinis Catering will cater movie snacks, and Plant-based Sweets by Lotus will have your sweet tooth covered. Tin Roof will be featuring its taproom-only beer, Not-So-Smiling Coconut Vanilla Imperial Stout, at the screening Saturday, Feb. 1, 7-10 p.m.

Celebrate two restaurateurs’ humble beginnings with a special dinner at Brickyard South Monday

Host Brickyard South will feature a Special Dinner on the Patio with Jay Ducote and Danny Wilson, telling the tale of how both were inspired to be in the restaurant business and their love of the ’80s. 

This four-course meal on Monday, Feb. 3, will also feature four pairings with wine and liquor from Landry Vineyards and Republic National Distributing Co.
