Baton Rouge restaurants open on Christmas

If you’re too exhausted from all the shopping, wrapping, gift exchanging, family shenanigans and Santa Claus-ing to cook a meal this Christmas, there’s no need to go hungry. Ditch the candy canes and head to a Baton Rouge eatery that’s serving up food on Christmas Day, such as one of these:

The Little Village
(Airline Highway location): 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
The heartiness of this rustic Italian bistro’s Christmas menu is a fitting match for your holiday cheer, with special dishes including apricot-glazed cornish game hen, crawfish-stuffed pork loin and roasted chestnut and butternut squash bisque. Call 751-4115 to make a reservation.

Crowne Plaza
11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m.
Fill up your plate with honey-glazed ham, roast turkey and pecan pie at one of the Crowne Plaza’s three Christmas buffet seatings. Entrance costs $28 for adults, $22 for seniors and $12 for kids 6-12. Call 930-0150 for reservations.

18 Steak
5-11 p.m.
‘Tis the season to treat yourself to a steak at the upscale eatery inside L’Auberge Hotel & Casino. 18 Steak offers all of the charcuterie, fine cuts and vintage wines they’re known for throughout Christmas evening. To reserve a table, call 224-4142.

Hunan Chinese Restaurant
11 a.m.-10:30 p.m.
Chinese food can be just as comforting as any American holiday fare when you’re looking to warm up and fill your stomach. Hunan offers up its full menu, including wonton soup, ken peng beef and mu shu pork.

Bay Leaf
11 a.m.-2:15 p.m., 5-10 p.m.
If you’re bored with gingerbread but still need a little spice, Bay Leaf’s authentic Indian cuisine can make your holiday. This restaurant will serve up its usual menu of flavorful, traditional dishes, and it also offers a wide selection of Indian beers and spirits.

Wontons
1-5 p.m.
For Chinese takeout made fresh, Wontons is a go-to. Escape your family’s awkward political debates or the millionth rerun of A Christmas Story and pick up a quick (and wallet-friendly) meal that everybody will enjoy.

OMI Restaurant
11 a.m.-10 p.m.
Pour a little sake and let this Japanese and Chinese restaurant make your Christmas merry. Omi offers its regular menu all Christmas Day, so you can trade in your ham and sugar cookies for sweet & sour pork ribs and mochi ice cream.

Viet Garden
10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Warm up with a hot and spicy bowl of pho and start a new Christmas tradition with Viet Garden’s extensive Vietnamese menu. With 125 menu items to choose from, even the pickiest member of your holiday crew should find something they’ll like.

Koi Sushi Restaurant
11 a.m.-10:30 p.m.
If you’re in the LSU area, Koi is probably your best bet for Christmas eats. A sushi roll might be just what you need after days of heavy Christmas bingeing, and Koi has some of the best.
