Baton Rouge Brunch Fest preview: Here’s what food you’ll find at Saturday’s event

We can’t think of a better way to spend Saturday than celebrating all things brunch. Presented by Perkins Rowe and hosted by Geaux Rouge Productions, the inaugural Baton Rouge Brunch Fest will gather brunch lovers together for good food, music and booze this Saturday at Baton Rouge Gallery.

“I’ve always wanted to do a brunch festthat was always the goal from day one,” says Franz Borghardt, one of the leaders of Geaux Rouge and head of the festival’s organization.

Vendors from the Mid City Makers Market will sell handcrafted wares at the festival, and 10 local food vendors will be serving up sweet and savory brunch eats (this is the stuff dreams are made of, y’all). The event will also feature live music and double as a tailgate party for the LSU game later in the evening, he says.

All dishes will be priced between $5-$10 and tickets to attend the event are $15. Buy tickets and find more information about Baton Rouge Brunch Fest here.

What’s being served

The Kolache Kitchen: A spicy boudin kolache with jalapeños and pepper jack cheese, a grits and grillades kolache, a banana nutella kolache and LSU cinnamon rolls.

The Cajun Spoon: Ryan Grizzaffi will be preparing “jamburritos,” or jambalaya in a tortilla. Guests can think of it as a stuffed brunch burrito served with salsa and dipping sauce. Good to know: for everything it sells, The Cajun Spoon will match in donations to the Baton Rouge Food Bank.

Mestizo: For your Mexican cuisine fix, grab two breakfast tacos with chorizo, scrambled eggs and potatoes, with a salsa bar for topping.

Barbosa’s Barbeque: Barbosa’s is your go-to for brisket breakfast tacos, topped with an egg, cheese, guacamole and salsa.

Brickyard South: One of the most creative options, try The Elvis from Brickyard South, which the restaurant describes as a “breakfast sushi”: It’s a grilled banana pancake covered in peanut butter, rolled and cut like sushi and topped with honey and bacon.

Magpie Cafe: Of course Magpie will have your hot coffee and iced latte fix, but it’s also serving chicken and sausage gumbo over corn grits with poached eggs, berry poptarts and cookies.

The Pelican House Tap Room and Whiskey Bar: From Pelican House, you’ve got cornbread French toast with cream cheese and strawberries, along with a bacon jalapeño dirty rice bowl, which comes with pickled collards, smoked pork shank, poached egg and strawberries.

The Ruby Slipper Cafe: The recently opened brunch hotspot will serve a festival-sized portion of its eggs cochon, made with slow-cooked pork debris served over a buttermilk biscuit and topped with two poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.

The Overpass Merchant: The Merchant will have its fruity pebbles bread pudding with cereal milk creme anglaise.
