10 meat-centric meals around Baton Rouge to binge on once Lent is over

One last Friday to go, and then Lent is over and you observant (or just plain guilty) Catholics are free to return to your meat-eating ways. You may still have to survive Good Friday, but it’s not too early to start planning your first big meat-centric meal to mark the end of your 40 days in the pescatarian desert. Here are some restaurants serving up more than one forbidden protein at once, in case you’ve got more than one craving to satisfy at once.

1. The Breakfast Burger at Mason’s Grill

The meatiest Sunday brunch comes in the form of a massive burger on sourdough buns piled with a American cheese, two fried eggs, a sausage patty, a ground beef patty and bacon.

2. Three Meat Bar-B-Q Dinner at Jay’s Bar-B-Q

Served with a choice of two sides, this dinner combo lets you pick your own trio between barbecued beef, ham, pork, chopped beef, turkey, sausage and chicken.

3. Albasha’s Meza at Albasha Greek Lebanese Restaurant

This massive platter comes piled with a combination of chicken shwarma and gyros, feta cheese salad, hummus, baba ghanouj (roasted eggplant dip), kibbi (cracked wheat pockets stuffed with ground beef, pine nuts and onion) falafel, rice, stuffed grape leaves and cabbage rolls.

4. Hibachi Chicken & Steak at Omi

Possibly the most exciting—definitely the most action-packed—way to get meat from the kitchen to your plate is a hibachi grill, which means Omi has that extra festive flair with marinated chicken and steak cooked right in front of you on the hibachi.

5. The Italian Club at Rotolo’s Craft & Crust

Available in a deep dish variety for maximum indulgence, this signature pizza comes with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, salami and bacon.

6. Mix Grill at Bay Leaf Indian Cuisine

If you’re looking to sample a wide range of tandoori protein delicacies, order this: tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, shrimp malai kabab, lamb burra kabab, fish tikka and lamb sheekh kabab.

7. Combination Fried Rice at Duang Tawan

For a Thai take on a maximum meat experience, Duang Tawan has plenty of pad thai and curries to chose from, but the combination fried rice brings the most variety of proteins at once: stir-fried rice with chicken, beef, pork, egg, onions and scallions.

8. Parilla Mixta at Tio Javi’s

A feast for two, this grilled extravaganza includes both beef and chicken fajitas, carnitas, shrimp, ribs and chile relleño, all cooked up with Mexican spices and served sizzling at your table.

9. Happy Family at Nine Dragon Chinese Restaurant

Basically every protein you could want—chicken, beef, roast pork, crab meat, jumbo shrimp, scallops—all come tossed with vegetables in a “special sauce” and served with white rice.

10. Cordon Bleu Sandwich at Our Mom’s Restaurant & Bar

This sandwich is stacked, sis. Inspired by the classic French chicken dish, it packs grilled chicken breast, grilled baked ham and melty Swiss cheese, dressed on a sourdough bun. (And yes, the restaurant is no longer called Your Mom’s, but Our Mom’s.)
