Yvette Bonanno talks about role in 1887 Bakery, TV show

Opening Aug. 1 in the renovated Kress at Third & Main downtown, 1887 Bistro Bakery & Bar will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and feature an extensive dessert menu. “We’re plugging along,” says Yvette Bonanno, a consultant on the project who’s helping with the layout of the kitchen, licensing, finding equipment purveyors, etc. After selling Bonanno’s Fine Catering in December 2007, Bonanno is under a non-compete contract for two years. “So my activities there have been very under the radar,” she says.
Bonanno and her father Gary Bonanno have been busy shooting a pilot show with Figure 8 Productions, which was pitched to TLC, not the Food Network (as reported in 225 Dine). Originally the show, which they’ve tried to get off the ground for a couple of years, was about a father-daughter catering business. That idea has morphed into a field piece that follows the pair as they cook in open-air markets in port cities across the globe, from Guatamala to Venice. “No confirmation on which network is going to pick it up. We’all waiting,” says Bonanno, who’s expecting her first child. “I’m just taking it easy for now.”
