Emerging fashion designer, LSU alum and St. Gabriel native Stephanie Young recently earned top designer honors at Fashion Week New Orleans.

“It doesn’t feel real,” Young says about the recognition.

Her award-winning designs are feminine, and she says her clothes are the kind she would personally want to wear.

“They’re almost 1970s-inspired without being as extreme,” says the former Suzanne Perron intern while describing the classic silhouettes in her new collection.

Young’s designs triggered blog buzz, with one fashion-minded writer calling them “heart-stopping.” Her line will be sold first at Vernon Clothing on Magazine Street in New Orleans, then expand to more area boutiques soon. Young plans to create bridal and evening wear dresses on commission, and her work for the movie Playing the Field can be seen later this year. Young designed the short white lace dress worn by star Judy Greer as a wedding gown in the movie.
