You spin me right round
Baton Rouge’s favorite frizzy-haired cover band has some celebrating to do this month.
Sir Devon Nooner, Lord Phillip Wang, Sir Liam Thunders, Dickie English and Platinum Randi Wilde of the brazenly retro 1980s band The Molly Ringwalds release a new CD and DVD April 1 at the The Varsity.
Though hailing from Sheffield, England, the Mollys have planted deep roots in Baton Rouge. “We honed our chops here,” Nooner explains. “Our first consistent gig was at the Caterie for the first three years of the band. Then we switched to the Varsity when we needed a bigger venue.”

The band sure did. The Mollys have sold out the Varsity 29 times in a row. This release party ought to make it 30.
The new release features eight interpretations of 1980s classics recorded at Better Than Ezra’s Fudge Recording Studio in New Orleans, including “Rebel Yell,” “Under Pressure” and “Material Girl.” Added are five cuts recorded live, including “1999” and “Hungry Like the Wolf.” The DVD has 11 music videos spoofing classic 1980s clips, plus a Behind the Music-style documentary on the band, bonus concert footage, outtakes, interviews and more. themollyringwalds.com
