Workwear Chic – Street style inspiration from NYFW

Workwear Chic

My Instagram, Twitter and Facebook feeds have been full of photos from New York Fashion week, but my favorites have been the street style shots—as usual. This gal stood out to me in the middle of the ladies decked out in designer duds. She looks so fresh and relaxed, the exact opposite of what I imagine the hustle and bustle of NYFW to be. Her look is refreshing and makes me long for springtime sun!

Carhartt and other workwear brands began popping up in street style outfits, models and a few runways a few seasons ago and it looks as though it is here to stay! Along with the sporty chic trend of wearing your trainers with a dress, wearing tough fabrics usually saved for wearing with steel toed boots is a fun combination to try as we transition into warmer months.

I borrowed from the men’s section for a few of the pieces in this outfit. In the effort of full disclosure, I have been known to make a B-line straight to the men’s section of certain stores because they fit me better. And I may or may not have gotten an employee discount before because I didn’t touch the women’s section of the store. So ladies, grab a pair of men’s chinos and roll them up to show a little ankle! A boxy cargo jacket with corduroy accents is a modern balance of your feminine physique. Wear it over a thin crew neck sweater for lightweight warmth. The shoe options are endless for this outfit. Boots for cold days, heeled mules for cool days, and sandals for warmer days when your toes are ready to thaw.
