Who’s ‘Next’?

Million Dollar Baby and Casino Royale scribe Paul Haggis stepped behind the camera last year to direct The Next Three Days, a tension-wracked family chase film new in stores this week. Russell Crowe stars as a well-meaning everyday dad and father whose life is thrown into chaos when his seemingly innocent wife is arrested for murder. Instead of fighting for her case using the legal system as Hilary Swank did recently in the excellent Conviction, Crowe, a mild-mannered teacher, gets some streetwise advice from a hard-scrabble Liam Neeson and hatches a plan to spring her out from behind bars. Once he sets his scheme in motion, Crowe can’t turn back, and his dangerous escape plan puts everyone in his family, including his young son, at great risk. Elizabeth Banks and Olivia Wilde co-star. Rated R.
