What’s new
Former Baton Rougean Scott Daughdril has returned to his hometown with a new venture, Sola Salon Studios (solasalonstudios.com), on Perkins Road near Essen Lane. The national salon chain features local stylists, entrepreneurs and independent beauty professionals working out of individual spaces within a larger complex. “Stylists can be at work here literally overnight,” Daughdril says of the 24-hour facility. “Sheers and clippers and they are ready to go.”
A handful of the stylists working out of Sola say leasing space in the new complex is a great way to build their brand and business without taking the financial risk on a free-standing salon. Mark Hill (pictured) of Marx Studio has been a local stylist for 24 years and says Sola’s opening was perfect time for him. “The clients love that it is one-on-one,” he says. “They love the privacy.”
Frankie Marcello’s Restaurant (frankiemarcellos.com) has opened on Perkins Road near Essen Lane serving up made-from-scratch Italian and Southern-inspired dishes, including fried green tomato and Buffalo mozzarella stacked and topped with a warm crawfish remoulade. Owner Frank Marcello is a Baton Rouge native whose parents own The Bread Basket on Florida Boulevard.

Children rejoice—or not. Louisiana-made toothpaste called Theodent has hit local stores in Baton Rouge and around the country. The active ingredient, naturally derived from chocolate—has been proven in clinical trials to regenerate tooth enamel. It can be found on shelves at Whole Foods Market in Towne Center.
