Well Suited: The Lone Ranger

The Lone Ranger is a classic tale of friendship and revolution, blended with a play on North American history during the second half of the 19th Century. The main characters, Tonto and John Reid, meet on a train headed to Reid’s hometown where Tonto was headed to be hanged. As a Comanche, Tonto has a different way of life than the Americans in the Wild West and lends his quirky persona to the story. Johnny Depp plays with Tonto’s character in a typical “out there” Depp fashion in the latest incarnation of this story, in theaters now.

Speaking of fashion, Tonto’s character is visual overload for me—in a great way! My mom’s side of the family is flooded with Cherokee and is likely the culprit of my devoted obsession to Cher’s headdress collection. (Sidenote: My mom would win a Cher look-a-like contest even if Cher herself entered.) In other words, emulating my inner half-breed is EZPZ. Combining a basically cool outfit of a suede skirt and a tee with borderline kitschy accessories makes it easy to take from everyday to inspiring!

The bones of this look are something that everyone should have in their closet—a pencil skirt and a boyish tee. The minute you layer on a breastplate that you just happened to have lying around the house and a fur purse, however, the look is far from boney. Add cool gladiator-esque heels and a stinkbug bracelet for extra interest as you swipe your credit card. The turban is optional but still a cool touch if you’re down with hat hair.

I’ll end with an obligatory Lone Ranger farewell: Hi-Yo, Silver! Away!
