Well Suited: Hart of Dixie – Channeling Jamie King’s Lemon Breeland

After suffering grave withdrawals from The O.C., I started watching Hart of Dixie to get my Rachel Bilson fix. Little did I know that some of my favorite teen drama actors would be characters on the show as well! Let’s be real here and agree that the story line of the show is predictable and ordinary, but the fashion, oh the fashion. Bilson’s character, Zoe Hart, is my heart’s song. Short suits to work and looking flawless in a tank and boyfriend jeans? Yes.

The character I can’t seem to get out of my system is Jamie King’s Lemon Breeland. Lemon is a neurotic, feisty, scheming Southern Belle with the fashionable taste that goes along with such things. Always in a vintage-inspired outfit, she appears charming—it is an illusion, I tell you—in every scene.

I imagine Lemon wearing this to a town event, whether a hat is socially appropriate or not. An early 1940s-inspired dress in a pop of salmon is lovely for spring and summer. The elastic waistband is a modern benefit for grazing on snacks all day, as proper ladies prefer snacking over full meals*. Scalloped sleeves are a feminine touch, keeping you modestly appropriate, pleasing the beloved blue-haired-ladies in your life. T-strap wedge heels are a fun way to incorporate more of a vintage-inspired feel into the look. Plus, attention petite gals, t-straps make your legs look longer! A 1930s hat is a fun way to top off the look. The cocked-to-one-side vibe of the 1930s and 1940s was über fashionable then. Now it is distinguished and helps you practice throwing some serious shade across the room**.

*Joke.
**I do not recommend driving in this style hat unless well-trained. Talk about a blind spot!
