Visual artists pay tribute to Ernest Gaines’ work
Artists from New York to Paris are showing their work in The Sky is Gray: Visual Works Inspired by the Writings of Ernest Gaines at LSU’s Glassell Gallery at the Shaw Center. A reading of Gaines’ excerpts by Teach for America students starts at 4 p.m. Sunday, and the artists reception goes until 7 p.m. The exhibit, which hangs through Dec. 10, includes local artists Michael Crespo and Kelli Scott Kelley. Catch the Race and Society symposium on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. featuring Gaines scholars Reggie Young, Marcia Gaudet, Maxine Crump and documentary filmmaker Ruth Laney. Free.
