Vet students host holiday supply drive for shelters
At this time of the year, many Baton Rougeans’ thoughts turn to those less fortunate. This year, LSU School of Veterinary Medicine students make it easy to improve the lives of animals at area shelters. From December 28 through January 4, the Student Chapter of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians is holding a supply drive.
Along with monetary donations, the group is collecting canned dog and cat food, litter, litter pans, food and water bowls, towels, dog beds, Kong toys, rawhide bones, toys and treats at the vet school’s main entrance from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Donations will be distributed to the East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Ascension, Walker, Livingston and Iberville municipal animal control agencies.

“Every year our club collects many great items for local shelters,” says Kelly Urbina, third-year veterinary student. “Help make this year’s collections even better and consider donating to help the animals who don’t have a home this holiday season.”
