Twisted Oak Music Festival launches this weekend
Seasoned veterans of the local music scene will come together for the inaugural Twisted Oak Music Festival Friday night. Wilder Janes, Dr. Espen Lilleslatten, John Madere Quartet, Amy Willson and Joy Bedillion, William Conlin, and Aureus Five will perform in the classical music event that champions local arts and tunes. The performances will range from experimental to folk and jazz. The event kicks off at 8 p.m. on the fourth floor terrace of the Shaw Center. Tickets are $10 and available here. Captain Green. The local funk band plays a homecoming show at Mud and Water. $6. 9 p.m.
An evening with Becca Babin. The singer-songwriter performs a free showcase at Rocco’s New Orleans Po Boys & Café. Special guests include Ben Herrington and Paul Buller. Jesse Lee Mitchell will open. 7:30 p.m.
Arliss Nancy, PJ Bond. Two out-of-town rock bands take the stage at Mud and Water. $6. 9 p.m.
Barghest, Christworm, Withering Light, Diab. Heavy metal showcase at Culture Bar. $5. 9 p.m.
POP! Weekly dance party at Spanish Moon. Cover is $3 for ages 21 and up, $5 for 18-to-20-year-olds. 9 p.m.

Family Robot Seizure Show, The Way High Men. Two local rock bands perform at Chelsea’s. 10:30 p.m.
The Hitchhiker, Joe Arnette, Jason Martin & The Corner Pocket. Local rock ‘n’ roll at Spanish Moon. Tickets are $7. Doors open at 9 p.m. The show starts at 10:30 p.m.
Hop Box. Local electronica at Mud and Water. $5. 9 p.m.
West Without, Hydra Melody, Vox & The Hound. Three local indie rock bands perform at The Varsity. Tickets start at $5 and are available here. Doors open at 5 p.m. for the LSU-Ole Miss game. Music begins 30 minutes after the game ends.
Sunday in the Park. The country rock band The Anteeks performs a free concert at North Boulevard’s Town Square. 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
House for Lions. The Los Angeles band performs a free showcase at Mud and Water next Monday. 9 p.m.
Nellie McKay. The singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist will perform the music of Billie Holiday and others with the Turtle Island Quartet next Tuesday at Manship Theatre. Tickets start at $35 and are available here. 7:30 p.m.
