Tribute to Alvin Batiste

Musicians flock to Southern University tonight to pay tribute to Alvin Batiste at the Felton G. Clark Activity Center. Among the students that have shuffled through the university’s Alvin Batiste Jazz Institute are American Idol’s Randy Jackson, Roland Guerin, Branford Marsalis and Coco York. Among tonight’s performers are Ellis Marsalis, Ed “Kidd” Jordan, Germaine Bazzle, Leah Chase, Stephen Jordan, Marlon Jordan, Kent Jordan and Wes Anderson. Several of Batiste’s former students, such as John Gray, Mike Esnault and Herman Jackson also will perform. Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 in advance; $50 at the door.
