Trash becomes treasure at LASM

Three contemporary Louisiana artists, Troy Dugas, Shawne Major and Jonathan Pellitteri are featured in this newly-opened exhibit at the LASM. Ordinary objects and cast-off become extraordinary pieces of art in the hands of these three creators. Troy Dugas collects unused consumer labels from bourbon to bread and fashions them into complicated mosaic designs. Shawne Major sews everything from Mardi Gras beads to bits of plastic rick-rack into huge, complex tapestries. And Jonathan Pellitteri uses junk metal to craft tiny, meticulous machines. Check out how one man’s trash can become a treasured piece of fine art! Through Oct. 12. lasm.org
