Fans of The Station Agent will welcome Thomas McCarthy’s follow-up, The Visitor. A widowed, desolate professor returns from his university in Connecticut to his New York City apartment to give a lecture only to find two immigrants squatting there, one African, the other Arab. Instead of kicking them out he lets the couple stay. But when one of them is arrested, the professor must become his only champion against deportation, and deal with the immigrant’s complicated mother.
