Denzel Washington has again found his guilty pleasure director, and his name is Tony Scott. In this splashy, 1990s-style thriller—which is actually an unnecessary remake of a splashy ’70s thriller—the Top Gun and True Romance director retells the tale of armed terrorists hijacking a subway train for ransom. This time, Washington doesn’t play a cop, but an ordinary subway dispatcher called on to help foil John Travolta’s master plan. James Gandolfini, Louis Guzman, and John Turturro co-star. Rated R.
