The Salad Shop opening soon at Acadian-Perkins Plaza

Baton Rouge will have a new opportunity to feast on short-order tossed salads at the forthcoming The Salad Shop, which should open in about three weeks at the Acadian-Perkins Plaza, says owner Bradley Sanchez.

The concept is simple: Patrons pick one of four lettuces, select toppings, a dressing and feast away. Sanchez says a couple of things will stand out at his new business; first is that each salad will be chopped before it’s served.

“I personally love a chopped salad,” says Sanchez, an LSU graduate who recently returned to Louisiana after working in the theater business in New York City. “You can really taste all the ingredients in every bite.”

Second is the number of toppings—there will be about 50 different items, ranging from proteins to cheeses to veggies. Sanchez made final decisions about what toppings to offer after posting a survey on his website over the summer. He says the results confirmed the direction he was heading in with lots of requests for dried and fresh fruits, nuts, beans and healthier greens like spinach and arugula.

Many survey respondents asked for beets, which hadn’t been on Sanchez’s list, but now is.

He’ll feature 12 different creamy and oil-based dressings, including some made by local vendors as well as his own house-made vinaigrette and others prepared on site. For more information, click here. —Maggie Heyn Richardson
