The Road less traveled

American Beauty director Sam Mendes’ breezy, indie comedy Away We Go gets a limited release this week, but his gut-wrenching megawatt period drama from 2008 is out on DVD now, too. Based on the novel by Richard Yates, Revolutionary Road reunites Titanic stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as an unhappily married 1950s couple bucking against the fading glory of the American dream. The young husband and wife—he being a schlub who can’t stand his job, and she dreaming of being an actress—move to France with their two young children and live a more bohemian existence in an effort to find themselves and a life they might enjoy. Kathy Bates and Michael Shannon co-star. Rated R.
