‘Twas an adorable scene at Vintage Vinyl in Mid City with singer-songwriter Madeline mesmerizing the assembled locals, just a girl and a guitar and an album of songs to tout; Black Velvet, available from her site. Her voice is Johanna Newsome elfin without the filigree, pitched exactly right for the careful curation of the shop. It was like a scene from a Zooey Dechanel movie or something, a tableau so precious I’m hesitant to even mention it, scaring it away like a wayward deer. To be clear, I’m in full support of this kind of twee excess and little scenes like BYOB art galleries and record stores popping up all over. Read more…
