Alejandro Escovedo, sixty-year-old veteran of the last three decades of alternative music, recalled how his son described his own music: old music for old people. Escovedo took that assessment in stride as he and his band proceeded to test the dynamics of the Manship Theatre with one of the most rock ‘n’ roll sets I’ve seen there. Guitarist David Pulkingham, with whom Escovedo performed acoustic two years ago at the Manship, proved again to be a master of texture, seeming to bounce little ghost wails and echoes off the walls, creating a surround-sound upgrade on the usual rock dynamic.
