Every year, Baton Rouge surprises me. Just when I think I have a bead on this place I call home, something shifts, things open up, things disappear. We lost the Compact Disc Store but got the Atomic Pop Shop. The Radio Bar has helped to add Mid-City as part of the cultural landscape of Baton Rouge. And though last year’s local records were seemingly all about prog-rock complexity, this year’s list of my favorite Baton Rouge CD’s (and digital offerings) finds me awash in rich, buttery, sound.
