The ‘Low’ down
Robert Duvall brought a Smoky Mountains myth to life last summer with Get Low, and the underrated drama has finally arrived on DVD this week. As reclusive hermit Felix Bush, Duvall emerges from isolation in rural Tennessee to give a sarcastic mortician played by Bill Murray a bizarre challenge: Throw me a funeral while I am still alive. Set in the 1930s and co-written by Mad Men staff writer Chris Provenzano and Blood Diamond scribe C. Gaby Mitchell, Get Low explores themes of loneliness, forgiveness and redemption as Duvall attempts to reconcile with the those he lost along the way. “Every secret dies somewhere,” the tagline reads, and Duvall’s “funeral” proves only the beginning of his plans for a brand new start. Sissy Spacek co-stars. Rated PG-13.
