The Lil’ Band O’ Gold Christmas Pageant
Lil’ Band O’ Gold, Louisiana’s own dream team of homegrown Acadiana rock and roll legends makes a timely holiday return to the Manship Theatre this Wednesday for the Lil’ Band O’ Gold Christmas Pageant. The band, who I talked about in this space recently (click here to read the full post), plays out only semi-regularly and altogether not very often outside Lafayette/Lake Charles.
Their Christmas revue will include all 8 regular members, all of whom have enjoyed some degree of national success both independently and supporting the biggest names in popular music. The show will consist of a few holiday classics and tunes for the season, all specially spiced up in the Louisiana tradition, and also plenty of the band’s celebrated swamp pop originals.
Despite not being able to play together regularly due to countless commitments to other bands, LBOG always manages to shake off the cobwebs pretty quickly for each gig they play, due in part to the wonderfully uncommon musical chemistry shared between it’s individual members. For this one though, they are coming off a pair of hometown holiday shows in Lafayette and also three date mini tour in Texas this past weekend. On the heels of so much activity, the Manship show should feature a band with a blazing holiday fire under it. And judging by the fact that they already manage to get back into a deep groove very quickly after long periods of inactivity, this show is going to be one that really shouldn’t be missed. A limited number of tickets are still available here, but it could sell out any time, so don’t wait too long.
