The great ‘Unknown’

Never go into a coma. That seems to be a major lesson from Unknown, the action thriller from young Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra that hit theaters earlier this year and is new on DVD this week. Liam Neeson stars as a well-respected doctor who wakes from a coma after an accident to find his identity stolen and even his wife, played by January Jones, denying his claims. She pretends she doesn’t even know him. But is she really lying or is Neeson losing his mind? With the help of a young woman and a loaded 9mm, Neeson sets out to find the answers to this bizarre conspiracy and to prove once and for all that he is who he professes to be. Set in Germany, the film plays out like a modern take on Frantic, Roman Polanski’s classic starring Harrison Ford. Frank Langella, Diane Kruger and Aidan Quinn co-star. Rated R.
