The Campaign (in theaters Friday)
If election season is good for one thing, it’s the humor. Tweets, headlines, radio show rhetoric—everything gets funnier every four years. Even Saturday Night Live.
This week, awkward comedy kings Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis face off in the latest political spoof The Campaign.
With a John Edwards-worthy hair swoop and plenty of his Southern “Dubya” bravado, Ferrell stars as a four-term North Carolina congressman poised to win unopposed until he receives a surprise challenge from a political newcomer in Galifianakis. Fans of The Hangover star will notice he has resurrected the effeminate demeanor of the faux-twin brother persona he used to trot out to talk shows years ago.
As the election draws near and the candidates’ attack ads and televised debate shenanigans grow more surreal, the real loser here just might be democracy.
Filmed largely in New Orleans, The Campaign debuts Friday. Katherine LaNasa, Dylan McDermott and Jason Sudeikis co-star. Rated PG-13. Watch the trailer below:
