The Beehive Salon – What’s in a name
The Afro, the mullet and the Rachel: they’re all ’dos that have defined decades. Then there’s the beehive—the 1960s style that tested the limits of hairspray and gravity.
It was then worn famously by Audrey Hepburn and now by Brit tabloid staple Amy Winehouse. So, when Pamela Panepinto and Lynn Johnson were bouncing ideas around for the name of their new Baton Rouge salon, the name “beehive” just resonated. “Everyone laughs at that hairdo. It’s fun, and to do a beehive is an art,” Panepinto says.
Naming the salon the Beehive allowed the duo to flex their collective funk. The ’60s was a colorful era marked by miniskirts, Barbie dolls and political movements. The salon reflects that fun, forward spirit.

The Beehive Salon may not feverishly churn out beehive hairdos for modern-day Baton Rougeans, but its stylists enable their clients to rock their own look, giving them hairdos that feel cool but not as … well, heavy. ?thebeehivesalonbr.com
