The Bank Job based on peculiar heist of ’71, out on DVD
It’s a shame this film couldn’t have come out sooner. Based on the true story of the 1971 Baker Street bank robbery in London, the story took 35 years to bloom because the English government was so befuddled by the unsolved case it placed a gag order on the press, and all details of the investigation were swiftly suppressed. In no way a sequel to The Italian Job, The Bank Job also stars Jason Statham, but as a thief who tunnels his way into a room of not-so-safe deposit boxes and makes off with more than $3 million. The money was never recovered and the culprits never found. Saffron Burrows co-stars. Rated R.
