The accidental ‘Tourist’

Johnny Depp gets much more than he bargained for when he is ensnared by the beauty of a fellow traveler in The Tourist, the romantic espionage thriller new in stores this week. In this English remake of the hit French film Anthony Zimmer, Angelina Jolie takes on Sophie Marceau’s role of a woman on the run from well-financed mafia bagmen who want her and her husband dead. On a train ride through Europe, Jolie engages in a relationship with Depp in order to make her enemies believe that he is in fact her husband in order to throw them off her track. But when Depp learns the true nature of their affair, he goes to the police, upping the ante in this stylish game of cat and mouse. Paul Bettany, Timothy Dalton and Rufus Sewell co-star. Rated R.
