That’s the spirit – The Old State Capitol has a specter and a movie all its own

Don’t get enough spooks and chills each Halloween? Consider spending some time with Baton Rouge’s most charming ghost, Sarah Morgan Dawson, who allegedly haunts the Old State Capitol. A 13-minute film, The Ghost of the Castle, has a spirit and style all its own.

Sarah Morgan Dawson’s story comes to life as shadowy figures dance along the walls. Lights flicker. Fires glow. This 4D experience, created by Bob Roger’s BRC Imagination Arts, debuted in 2010.

A long time in the making, it stems from a group of Old State Capitol staff members’ delight at a Lincoln exhibit in Springfield, Ill.

As a girl, Sarah Morgan began what would become a six-volume published diary. Her earliest volumes deal mainly with Baton Rouge society and the Civil War.

But she has every right to be a restless spirit. Her life, full of loss, also was punctuated by acts of violence. What’s most haunting is her unwavering devotion to the South and to the building she loved so dearly. louisianaoldstatecapitol.org
