Tearing Granite at the LSU Museum of Art

-

The new exhibition at the LSU Museum of Art, Tearing Granite, highlights the monumental and small scale granite sculptures by the artist Jesús Moroles. Moroles is internationally renowned as one of the greatest sculptors working with granite today. Through a unique process called tearing, Moroles transforms each block of hard stone into delicately refined sculptures that examine the connections between man and nature. A giant chessboard set, made entirely of granite, commands the space of one gallery floor, inviting patrons to play a game. Other sculptures are meant to be stroked, producing a melodic sound. Explore this exhibit starting this Sunday, and meet the artist himself at 2 p.m. at an artists’ talk. lsumoa.com
