A disgraced journalist gets unlikely assistance from an edgy computer hacker with a dark past in Oscar-nominated director David Fincher’s new adaptation of the late Stieg Larsson’s best-selling crime novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, new on DVD and Blu-ray this week. Set in Sweden, this icy thriller follows Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist, an investigative journalist digging through a powerful family’s history to solve the cold case of a woman who has been missing for decades. After being hired by the elderly patriarch of the family to get to the heart of this mystery, a young hacker contracted to conduct a background check on Blomkvist quickly becomes his trusted aid in his dangerous pursuit of the truth. The Social Network’s Rooney Mara makes her first star turn as the iconically edgy and damaged Lisbeth Salander. Stellan Skarsgard, Christopher Plummer and Robin Wright co-star. Rated R.
