Tailgate cool

Don Paul Day had a rock star moment tailgating at an LSU game last year. He was wheeling around a cooler that he, his brother-in-law and a good friend had designed—one in the shape of their alma mater LSU’s football helmet. “The only thing I can compare it to is being a rock star,” Day says. “Everybody notices the cooler because it’s so different. The next thing you know, I’m like the Pied Piper. The guys all wanted to know how much it holds.”

Forty quarts is his response—that’s about 35 long-neck beers and 15 pounds of ice. Plus, the facemask doubles as dry storage for chips and dip.

Of course, the plan all along was to market and sell these unique football helmet-shaped coolers. Their company, Coolr Coolrz, is now licensed through LSU and they plan to have about 5,000 coolers ready for purchase through their website by November ($149 each). Next up, they’ve licensed with the University of Wisconsin with plans for even more SEC schools on the horizon. coolrcoolrz.com
