Street eats rolling in Baton Rouge

Hip and trendy, food trucks are the newest niche dining outfits catering to Baton Rouge foodies. Although subject to the whims of weather and occasionally fickle equipment, these mobile restaurateurs hit the streets as often as they can to serve fresh, tasty street food to waiting diners at different locations each day. And they’re using Web 2.0 technology to spread the word, via social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

This deli-on-the-go roams freely between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Curbside’s is hands-on—they grind their own beef for the burgers, freshly cut the fries and even pickle their own pickles. And it’s all served on recycled products so you can satisfy your hunger for fresh ingredients and offset carbon emissions at the same time.

Owner Kevin Black has one piece of advice for fans of his hot-off-the-griddle creations: Get there early. “I can only pack so much into the truck,” he says, laughing. The chicken caprese crepes are especially popular, stuffed with herb-soaked chicken, Roma tomatoes and aioli sauce. Or, try a delicate dessert treat like a Nutella and raspberry crepe.
