Baton Rouge celebrates Independence Day with food, fun and fireworks. Kick off the morning with the BASF Freedom Mile fun run, starting at Casino Rouge (call 927-9200 Ext. 442 for registration and details). Enjoy live music, face-painting, inflatable slides along the levee downtown starting at noon, as well as a mock air attack on the USS KIDD at 6 p.m. The Chris LeBlanc Band cranks up at 6:30 p.m., and the spectacular fireworks display starts at 9 p.m. Need a better, more private view of the fireworks? Head to the LSU Museum of Art’s Confetti and Fireworks fundraiser, which includes food, dancing and a tour of the Mari and James A. Michener Collection. You can also swing by Manship Theatre’s Independence Day Indulgence for a fourth-floor terrace view of the fireworks, food and a cash bar. $50 for adults; $25 for children under 12.
