Spotlight on Barr Estate Winery’s 2010 Albarińo
This week’s warmer temperatures are a great excuse to work in a crisp, food-friendly white wine, and Barr Estate Winery’s 2010 Albarińo from Paso Robles is a nice choice.
Albarińo has gained more traction in the U.S. in the last decade, but it’s still a varietal that remains underappreciated. It shouldn’t.
I love it because it has the pairing range and versatility of a Sauvignon Blanc with additional creaminess and oomph. This one bursts with apricot and peach and an undercurrent of citrus. It’s perfect with seafood, bold cheeses, Asian fare and spicy food. Try it with a salad of frisée and baked goat cheese or fiery green curry.
