Spare Changeling on DVD

All of the attention Clint Eastwood got in 2008 was for his final acting performance in Gran Torino, an excellent film he also directed. But last fall also saw the release of Eastwood’s 1920s tragedy, Changeling. Angelina Jolie stars in this true story as a California mother whose son goes missing. What separates this from Eastwood’s big missing-child hit, Mystic River, is that the story gets odder when the child is returned to her months later. Despite what police tell her, Jolie realizes the boy returned is not her son. After fighting with the police and a local judge, Jolie is thrown into an asylum. John Malkovich and the transformative Amy Ryan (here totally unrecognizable from The Office or Gone Baby Gone) co-star. Rated R.
