Scott’s Bluff offers one of the most picturesque views in the city, and Southern University is taking advantage of its scenic sunset view by hosting a music series. The Classical Jazz Concert on the Bluff, overlooking the Mississippi River, kicks off Friday with renowned saxophonist and Southern University grad Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson, a Brooklyn native and member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Before the show at 3:30 p.m., Anderson hosts a free 60-minute workshop/lecture in the Magnolia Room of Mayberry Dining Hall for jazz enthusiasts. Upcoming concerts include saxophonist Michael Phillips on July 17, jazz vocalist Stephanie Jordan on July 24 and bassist Leon Lee Dorsey on July 24. While there be sure to visit the Southern University Museum of Art, within walking distance. All shows start at 7 p.m. at Mayberry Lawn near the Clark Activity Center. Free.
