Some ‘Symphonic’ evening

The Baton Rouge Symphony’s season continues Thursday night with three works from the heart of French Romanticism, exploring the human experience in the context of the supernatural and macbre. The Funeral March of a Marionette, a reflective short work by Charles Gounod, is followed by Camile Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2. Probably Saint-Saëns’ most popular piano concerto, the work, performed by Eduard Kunz, travels from restless melancholy to voluminous tumult. The Symphony Fantastique completes the evening – a tribute to unrequited love, musically documenting passionate and darkly transformative episodes in the life of the “Beloved.” Tickets are available at brso.org.
