Many people growing up in the Deep South may not know exactly what the term “couture” means. A French word that has something to do with fashion in Paris or New York? Probably. But, you know, nothing relevant to what we wear in Louisiana.

Well, the definition of “couture” is “fashion design” or “high fashion.” And one local’s expertise in fabrics has turned into a new venture for custom-made high-fashion designs right here in Baton Rouge.
Pedram Pasha Taheri studied interior design at LSU and works as the district manager and designer for The Rug Store, where he was inspired to enter the fashion trade.
One goal of Taheri’s is to have celebrity clients, and currently, he is designing a gown for Shahs of Sunset star Lilly Ghalichi.
“I want to create something beautiful and iconic that is pleasing to the senses, both visually and tactile,” says the young designer of Persian descent. “It’s important for me to create an emotional response.”
Taheri’s new line, called Pedram Couture, will make its runway debut at New Orleans Fashion Week in March. pedramcouture.com
