Snow White and the Huntsman in theatres June 1
As comic book adaptations have grown dark (see: the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man and, obviously, The Dark Knight Rises) so too have our fairytales. This Friday, Walt Disney spins in his grave—or his cryo-chamber, if you believe those rumors—when his beloved Snow White is turned into a twisted, violent sword-and-sandal epic called Snow White and the Huntsman. In a fresh take on the Grimm’s narrative, the huntsman in this story sees through the evil queen’s scheme and instead of killing Snow White becomes her pledged protector and captain of her underground force aiming to rid the beleaguered kingdom from the icy grip of the beauty-obsessed black magic matriarch.
Twilight star Kristen Stewart headlines the film with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron seething as the aged, evil queen Ravenna who literally eats the souls of pretty young things to keep herself svelte. Chris Hemsworth, taking a break from swinging a Nordic hammer as Thor to pick up a medieval sword here, plays the rogue-turned-protective huntsman, and Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins and Ray Winstone co-star. Rated PG-13. Watch the trailer below:
