Size doesn’t matter

We asked a few of LSU’s biggest, strongest football players about their phobias. Turns out they get scared just like everybody else.

Alex Hurst, offensive lineman—heights

“I’m scared of heights: roller coasters, Ferris wheels, even trees. When I was 4 or 5 years old, my parents took me on a roller coaster. I buried my head in their laps. I haven’t been to a fair in years. Last year, when we were flying to Washington (for a game with the University of Washington Huskies), we flew over the Rocky Mountains, and that shook me up.”

Kelvin Sheppard, ?linebacker—heights

“I don’t do heights. I just don’t. The first time I knew I was afraid of heights was when I got into one of the elevators where it’s clear and you can see down. I don’t do those.”

Joseph Barksdale, ?offensive lineman—dogs

“I used to be afraid of dogs. My momma used to run from dogs, and I figured I should too. When I was 12, I decided, I’m not going to be afraid of dogs. My friend had a teacup Yorkie, and I got used to him. A regular Yorkie was next. ?I worked my way up to pit bulls.”
