Six Zach Galifianakis clips funnier than The Hangover Part III

In theaters Friday: Before Midnight, Epic, Fast & Furious 6, The Hangover Part III

New on Blu-ray: Beautiful Creatures, Side Effects

Can’t say I’m expecting much from The Hangover Part III this Friday. Sure the Todd Phillips-directed comedy that stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis will bring major bank at the box office, but if you’re short on time or otherwise indisposed this weekend, check out these six clips of Galifianakis that are, in all likelihood, much funnier than the sequel. Yeah, I just saved you $10. (Of course, the language heard in most of these clips is R-rated).

But first, a gif to set the mood…

Few modern comedians pull the stereotype lever and confront prejudices with as much glee as Galifianakis. The M&M store serves as the springboard for the comedian to “apologize” to his coworkers for some inappropriate comments on his first day of work. This Saturday Night Live sketch is pretty much the definition of “Sorry, not sorry.”

One of Galifianakis’ most brilliant—and unfortunately little seen—characters is the sublime creation of his own, blithely effeminate twin brother, Seth. Repurposed for the lackluster Will Ferrell team-up The Campaign, here’s the very fictional “Seth Galifianakis” in his purer form, starring in mock interviews with Brian Unger. (Bonus: the outtakes might be even funnier.)

Do not interrupt Galifianakis’ Jihad jokes. Seriously. He pulls this chatty nursing student on stage and creates comedy gold while also kind of ripping her to shreds.

The Office star turns the tables on his aloofly abrasive “talk show” host, and the resulting banter reveals a hilarious, and little-seen side to Galifianakis’ comedic character: the empathetic victim. Even this goofy three-minute episode shows the actor’s confident range. Watch the video here.

Talking with longtime buddy Paul F. Tompkins for Made Man is about as real as Galifianakis gets, but even when he’s not “on,” he’s hilarious. JFK impressions, Boy Scout shorts, honeybees and colony collapse disorder get referenced in this rambling conversation.

Not much goes right in this semi-regular Jimmy Fallon sketch, except for the laughs. Give Galifianakis a pool cue, some mannequin arms and what look like a pair of Cooper’s yellow-tinted Hangover shades, and a good time is guaranteed for all. “Up top!”
