‘Sid’ vicious

Gary Oldman’s tour de force performance as ill-fated Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious in Sid & Nancy has arrived on Blu-ray this week. Directed by Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas scribe Alex Cox, this harrowing and occasionally darkly humorous 1986 musical drama plays out like a lucid dream and a mood poem dedicated to the death of the punk rock era, the dark side of fame and an acidic alternate version of Romeo and Juliet mythology. It should have earned Oldman an Oscar nomination—if for nothing else than his bedazzled rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” Rated R.
