Shyamalan’s R-rated The Happening in theaters Friday

Heralded by TV commercials as M. Night Shyamalan’s first “R rated” feature film, the implication is simple: If The Sixth Sense gave you chills, The Happening is going to scare you to death. And that’s what could be happening in the plot as some kind of epidemic causes people to off themselves across the globe. Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel are the pretty couple we follow through the hysteria. With rumors that the cause has something to do with the environment retaliating against humanity, could this be Shyamalan’s “green” film? John Leguizamo also stars. Rated R.
