Shop till you drop Friday

After playing the oddball girlfriend in Wedding Crashers and Hot Rod, Isla Fisher makes her bid for full-on Reese Witherspoon/Renee Zellweger-caliber broad comedy with Confessions of a Shopaholic. Like the fortunate timing of The International, Shopoholic could capitalize on penny-pinching audiences who want to live vicariously through a big shopper when they can’t afford to splurge themselves. Based on the Sophie Kinsella novel of the same name, the film stars Fisher as a recent college grad who moves to New York City to be a financial writer and battle her addiction in a city that never stops shopping. Joan Cusack and John Goodman co-star. Rated PG.
