Shimmy for Shelter
Got a hankering for something a little exotic this holiday season? Then check out the shimmying belly dancers of BayouShimmy Dance Studio as they celebrate their 7th anniversary with a fundraiser. Dance teachers and students from across South Louisiana will participate in this eclectic showcase of professional and amateur belly dancers at University Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall on Dalrymple Drive near State Street. All proceeds will benefit the Baton Rouge Area Battered Women’s Shelter. As one dancer put it: “We dancers gratefully dedicate our joy of dance and freedom of movement to our sisters whose joy and freedom are currently in jeopardy. Let this celebration remind all women (all people for that matter) of our true magnificence.” A donation of $10 will be collected at the doors, which open at 6:30 p.m. The show is from 7 to 9 p.m. To learn more click here.
